Product Introduction:

1)Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) : XLPE is a thermoplastic that converts linear polyethylene chains into a 3D network structure through chemical cross-linking. It has excellent electrical insulation properties, heat resistance and chemical resistance. In the cable industry, cross-linked polyethylene is widely used as an insulating material due to its high heat resistance and ability to withstand high temperatures without releasing harmful gases like PVC.

2)Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) : PVC is a widely used plastic material that has become one of the major insulating materials in the cable industry due to its excellent electrical properties, low cost, and ease of processing. PVC has good heat resistance, flame retardant and corrosion resistance, and is easy to dye and process. However, harmful gases will be released at high temperatures, so special attention should be paid when using in high temperature environments.

3)Polyethylene (PE) : PE is a widely used plastic material that is widely used in the cable industry due to its good flexibility, impact resistance, and electrical properties. PE material has excellent low temperature resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, and is easy to process and dye. However, its heat resistance is poor, so it needs to pay attention to the temperature limit when using it.

4)Low-smoke halogen-free cable extrusion: Low-smoke halogen-free cable is a cable manufactured using special materials and processes designed to reduce smoke and toxic gases released during fire. The insulation and sheath materials of the cables do not contain harmful substances such as halogen, so they do not release toxic and corrosive gases when burned. Low smoke halogen-free cables are widely used in applications where flame retardant and low smoke requirements are required, such as buildings, ships, and trains.

How it works:

1)Extruder: Extruder is the core equipment of plastic extrusion. It heats, compresses and pushes forward plastic raw materials through rotating screws to produce continuous plastic melt. The screw with thread shape is rotated in the heated barrel to squeeze the plastic sent in the hopper forward, so that the plastic is gradually heated and evenly plasticized, and the plastic is squeezed onto the wire core through the machine head and mold. The barrel is composed of inner and outer sleeve. The inner cover and the coat accept electric heating together, play the role of “heat source” to the fuselage, and cooperate with the screw to achieve the plastic crushing, softening, melting, plasticizing, exhaust and compaction, to the molding system continuous and uniform delivery of rubber. The screw is the “heart” of the extruder, and only the movement of the screw can complete the plastic extrusion. The rotation of the screw produces shear force, which breaks the plastic; The rotation of the screw produces thrust, which makes the broken plastic move forward continuously and thus produces extrusion pressure, and by the action of this extrusion pressure, the screen plate and other parts of the pressure to produce reaction force, resulting in the flow of plastic and stirring, so as to achieve the overall balance of the extrusion process.

2)Extrusion die: A die is a metal cavity of a specific shape used to form the insulation layer or sheath layer of a cable. When the molten plastic passes through the mold, it is limited by the mold to form the required shape and size.

3)Cooling device: After the plastic passes through the mold, there is usually a cooling device to quickly cool and harden the plastic to form the desired cable parts.

4)Traction device: The traction device pulls the cooled cable parts out of the mold to ensure the continuous production of cable parts.

Extrusion of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and polyethylene (PE) works similarly, but XLPE needs to be irradiated or chemically crosslinked before extrusion to improve its electrical insulation properties and heat resistance. The high extrusion temperature of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) requires the use of special screw and die materials to avoid decomposition and discoloration. The extrusion of low-smoke halogen-free cables requires the use of a halogen-free formulation and control of the processing temperature and screw speed to ensure the stability of the material and the performance of the cable.

One of the important considerations to ensure plasticization is to increase the shear strain rate generated by the plastic during screw rotation, so as to achieve uniform mechanical mixing, balanced extrusion heat exchange, and thus provide guarantee for uniform plasticization.
